Meet Esther!

She’s been with Vermaat for nine years now, time really does fly when someone moves through the building with the speed and confidence of a true pro. Not all of those years were spent at Uber though. Because before Esther lived in the east of the country, far from the buzz of Amsterdam. Eventually she thought, “Let me explore the big city,” and that’s exactly how she found her way to us. And honestly… we’re still very happy she did.

Esther is a real all‑rounder. You’ll often see her moving quickly from place to place, helping wherever she’s needed, and handling every task with steady focus and reliability. She makes things run smoothly, even on the busiest days. Her work is always neat, precise and well thought‑out. And on top of that, Esther is one of our very social colleagues. Always up for something fun, always there at every team event, and always bringing great energy (and usually a good story or two).

We’re pretty lucky to have her and we hope she keeps racing through our halls for many more years.

What do you like most at work?

“Everything allround. I also like serving the food during lunch and helping the guests if they have questions.”

About:

Bob, who doesn’t know him? But here’s a little fun fact: we all know him as Bob, but his real name is actually Robert.

Bob is always cheerful, endlessly chatty and genuinely social with everyone he meets. There is a pretty big chance that if you swing by his station, you’ll walk away with not only a smile… but also an extra snack. 😉

But jokes aside, Bob has seen almost everything at Uber. As he has been around for a very long time, which also means there is a high chance you’ve crossed paths with him somewhere along the way. On top of all that, Bob is also a certified mentor. He went out of his way to get the official qualifications needed to guide culinary students in their training. It says a lot about who he is, someone who truly invests in others.

And it’s not just his social skills that are great. Bob has every quality of a fully independent and trustworthy cook. You can absolutely leave him to run things on his own. Oh, and did you know he wakes up waaaay earlier than most of you? He’s here at 05:30, without fail: the very first one to arrive. Thanks to his preparation, the rest of us get to start the day right. Thanks for all your efforts Bob!

About:

Meet Linsheng or simply Lin, as we all know him. Lin is our sous-chef on site, and he does this with absolute mastery. He not only leads with skill but also keeps the team laughing every day with his humor.

Lin has been part of our team for quite some time now, and some of you might even remember him from our old location. If you’re looking for a chef with serious skills, Lin is your guy. His knife work is nothing short of incredible, and when it comes to cooking with flavor, he’s a true master. We often joke that everything Lin touches turns to gold and lucky for you, you get to enjoy the results!

Lin loves sharing his expertise with colleagues, always ready to teach a technique or pass on his knowledge. Fun fact: when Lin first joined us, his English wasn’t great, and we sometimes struggled to understand each other; but with a bit of creativity (and plenty of hand gestures), we made it work! Fast forward to today, Lin speaks English well and making himself perfectly understood (and often making us smile in the process).

Lin, thank you for being such an essential part of our team!

About:

Meet Nick! Nick joined our team after trying out several different jobs, but this time he was determined to follow his passion. He started in the service team and soon shared his ambition to move into the kitchen and join the chef training program.

From that moment, Nick gave it his all. He didn’t just complete the program, he became the top student in his class and greatly improved his skills. Every day, he shows up ready to give his best.

When we launched the pop-up concept, Nick embraced the challenge and made it his own. Today, he is the face you will see when you visit the pop-up. And it’s not just cooking skills he has picked up spending time with the chefs, Nick has mastered their signature dad jokes too! So expect great food and a good laugh when you meet him.

Nick is one of those rare people who set a goal, commit fully, and make it happen. We couldn’t be prouder to have him on our team.

About:

If we’re talking about someone who’s been with Vermaat for a long time, it’s definitely Barbara. She’s been part of the team since 1992, that’s over 33 years of dedication! If that’s not the definition of a committed employee, we don’t know what is.

Bar, because that’s what most of us call her, has worn many hats over the years. At Uber, she’s taken on a more administrative role and is the powerhouse behind all those tablets with the dishes and nutrientents you see every day (yes, they’re updated by hand daily!). She also makes sure our schedules run smoothly, placing the right people in the right spots so everyone can enjoy their workday.

Barbara might seem like she’s working quietly in the background, but trust us, she’s someone we couldn’t do without. Sure, she’s secretly counting down the days to retirement, but until then, we’re just happy she’s here!

“Pannenkoek met kaas en stroop.”

What do you like most at work?

“Pretty much everything. I mainly handle the administration, but I also enjoy helping out in the restaurant during the peak hours.”

About:

Leo has been part of Vermaat for many years.. really, a long time! Over the years, he’s worked at various locations, gaining tons of experience along the way. Since early 2024, Leo has joined our team, and we couldn’t be happier to have him on board.

When you think of Leo, you think of an incredibly social colleague, the true gentleman and connector. He’s approachable and welcoming, not just to our guests but to everyone in the team.

Did you know Leo is also a language buddy? Every week, he makes time to help a colleague improve their Dutch. This truly shows Leo’s warm nature, wherever he can help, he does. And here’s the best part: Leo is unshakable! You can ask him anything, and he’ll tackle it with a burst of positive energy every single time.

“I like to be on the cold side with our Sous-Chef Lin. Here we prepare a lot for the lunch”

About:

Othman is the definition of hard work and openness. Nothing is too much for him. A thousand guests all needing to return their plates? No problem. An extra deep clean? No problem. Lending a hand in the kitchen? Also no problem. He’s always ready to jump in wherever needed, and he does it with a calm and positive attitude.

But Othman isn’t just a powerhouse, he’s also a truly lovely colleague to work with. When he first joined us, he didn’t speak much English or Dutch, but we’re incredibly proud of how far he’s come. He picked up both languages impressively fast and now even attends weekly Dutch lessons to keep improving. So if you see him around, feel free to help him practice a little, he’ll appreciate it!

In short: Othman is an essential part of our team, and we’re lucky to have him.

“I like to help wherever I am needed. I am always glad to help the chef when he asks me something.”

About:

Nam is one of those people you just love having around. She’s been with Uber for quite a while, so if you’ve been here long enough, you definitely know her. She started out in the service team, but her love for the kitchen quickly became clear and we’re so glad she followed that passion.

Nam has an amazing sense of flavor and knife skills that would make even experienced chefs jealous. She’s always focused on quality, always ready to help, and always looking out for her teammates. On top of all that, she’s just genuinely sweet, the kind of person who makes the team stronger just by being part of it.

And here’s a fun fact: Nam doesn’t just have a talent for food, she’s also got a serious green thumb. Not only is her garden at home full of beautiful flowers and herbs, but thanks to her, our own garden is always looking great. The fresh herbs and cresses you see (and taste!) every day? That’s Nam’s touch. She brings flavor to the kitchen in every sense of the word!

José is simply one of a kind. He’s incredibly good at what he does, whether it’s jumping in to support someone else or solving something on the spot, he always knows exactly what needs to happen and how to do it right. He’s fast, focused, and always in motion, you’ll often see him running past, making sure everything runs smoothly.

But what really makes José unforgettable is his personality. Working with him means your day will be filled with laughter. He has a great sense of humor, loves sharing jokes, and brings a contagious energy to the team. At the same time, he’s deeply committed to delivering excellent service and making sure everyone feels taken care of. With José around, things get done and they get done with heart.

“I like to help whereever I am needed. This can be in the restaurant, kitchen, pantries or the wellness.”

Alma brings energy, skill, and heart to everything she does. She is always present, always engaged, and always ready to jump in wherever help is needed. Her drive for perfection shows in everything she does, from delivering high levels of service to keeping the team’s productivity on point.

Her curiosity makes her a fast learner, and she genuinely enjoys discovering new things and growing in her role. You’ll often spot her with her signature look, a pen tucked in her hair, ready to create beautiful handwritten signs that add a warm, personal touch to everything she’s involved in.

Alma brings energy, creativity, and care to the team. Her presence makes a difference, and we’re lucky to have her.

“I like to write down the food and allergies on the small signs as nice as possible.”

Valentina is pure power and passion in one person. While she works incredibly hard herself, her energy and dedication also inspire those around her to give their best. She knows the restaurant inside out, down to the smallest details and it shows in everything she touches.

Valentina has been with Uber for a long time, so many of you already know her well. She’s outspoken, committed, and has a heart of gold. Her perfectionism ensures everything always looks flawless. She’s got a lively way of talking, and yes, it’s not unusual to hear her somewhere in the restaurant, full of energy and involvement.

Valentina brings experience, flair, and a whole lot of heart to the team. We’re really glad she’s here.
